About Maya Tutor
A private tutor for children in grades 1–6: the child tells Maya what they learned at school today, and she teaches it with them. When an answer is wrong, she explains why that answer was tempting instead of saying “try again”.

What is Maya Tutor?
Maya Tutor is a private tutor for children, on the web at maya-tutor.com and on iPhone. Maya is the tutor’s name. She does not replace school or the class teacher. She comes in afterwards: a child comes home with a topic that did not quite land, and Maya goes over it with them that evening.
The catalog holds 265 authored lessons: math (80), Hebrew (50), science (50), English (44) and world studies (41), for grades 1–10. Every lesson is written around one mistake children tend to make in that topic, and the lesson is built to catch it.
How does a lesson with Maya go?
- The child tells Maya what they learned at school today, or picks a topic from the catalog.
- Maya teaches it with them, one step at a time.
- She asks questions the child answers with a tap. There is nothing to type.
- When an answer is wrong, she explains why that answer looked right, and what the difference is.
- She remembers what did not land and comes back to it next time.
An example from the catalog, grade 3: “1/2 vs 1/4. Which is bigger?” The mistake this lesson is written to catch: a quarter looks bigger, because 4 is a big number. Maya does not answer with “try again”. She explains that 1/4 is one of four equal pieces, so it is smaller: the fewer the pieces, the bigger each piece.
Who is Maya for?
Maya is made for parents of children in grades 1–6, ages 6–12, for the evening a child comes home with a topic that is still unclear and nobody is free to explain it again. The catalog goes on to grade 10.
The interface is available in 11 languages: English, Hebrew, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese and Japanese. The topic pages on this site are in Hebrew and English for now.
Where does Maya come from?
Maya was built in Israel by Michal Topchiashvili. The service is run from Israel and is available worldwide: on the web, and on iPhone through the App Store since 1 September 2026. An Android version has not been published on Google Play yet. The full operator details are on the legal notice page.
How is Maya different?
- She explains why, not only what. A wrong answer does not get “try again”. Maya shows what made that answer look right.
- She remembers. What did not land today comes back next time.
- By grade. Every lesson belongs to a subject and a grade, so the questions fit the stage the child is at.
- The first lesson is free. The first lesson is free, no card needed. After that, Maya Plus is a subscription you can cancel any time; the price is shown in the App Store or at checkout before you pay.
What is Maya not?
The name Maya is shared by several things. To be precise:
- Not Autodesk Maya (3D software)
- Not the Maya civilization
- Not a tutor marketplace
- Not a chatbot with an avatar
Most catalog lessons are written in advance, topic by topic, and the questions are multiple choice. Maya is also not a crisis line, a ministry of education or a credential.
Is Maya safe for children?
- Maya does not ask a child for an email address, a precise location or a friend list.
- No chat between children, no public feed, no location and no ads in a lesson.
- A live lesson with a language model opens only after a parent confirms by email. Until then it stays locked.
- From the parent screen, a parent can pause the AI and delete the cloud copy.
- A page photo or voice clip sent for a lesson is processed by the model provider and not kept by us, and we do not train a model of our own on children's lessons.
- Children's information is never sold, and there are no targeted ads.
